ABPA Releases Groundbreaking Research on Rising Collision Repair Costs: “High Costs, Hard Hits”

The Automotive Body Parts Association (ABPA) is proud to announce the release of its latest research report, “High Costs, Hard Hits: The Consumer Struggle with Rising Collision Repair Prices“. Developed in partnership with Depth Services, this in-depth study examines the real-life hardships consumers face due to systemic barriers that inflate vehicle repair costs and restrict their options.

The report details the financial and emotional toll of soaring repair prices on American drivers, exposing how limited competition and restricted access to affordable replacement parts are forcing consumers into difficult financial decisions. Through quantitative surveys, qualitative interviews, and expert analysis, this research underscores the urgent need for industry reform and legislative action.

Key Findings of the Report:

  • Skyrocketing Repair Costs: Over 75% of surveyed drivers reported significant price increases in collision repair, often leading to financial hardship.
  • Delays Due to Parts Availability: Nearly 44% of surveyed drivers faced prolonged repair delays due to parts shortages, leaving many without transportation for weeks or months.
  • Financial and Emotional Toll: Many consumers are being forced to deplete savings, take on debt, or even delay critical repairs due to rising costs. Some reported losing jobs or experiencing severe financial hardship as a result.
  • Strong Public Support for Legislative Action: 75% of surveyed drivers support Right to Repair legislation such as the REPAIR Act and SMART Act, which aim to restore balance and fairness in the auto repair market.

A Call to Action for Industry Reform

“The findings of this report make it clear: rising repair costs and parts monopolies are hitting consumers hard,” said Edward Salamy, Executive Director of the ABPA. “Drivers across the country are struggling with inflated repair bills and delays that could be avoided if we had a truly competitive market for replacement parts. The ABPA remains committed to fighting for consumer choice, affordability, and access to high-quality parts to ensure fairness in the industry.”
